Who can invite or sponsor a foreigner
Article 14 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13 lists who may invite or sponsor a foreigner, including:
- businesses established under Vietnamese law, representative offices and branches of foreign traders, and other organisations with legal status;
- Vietnamese citizens with permanent residence in Vietnam;
- foreigners holding a temporary or permanent residence card.
Individuals may only invite a foreigner to visit, and must have papers proving the relationship (Article 14). Under Article 45, a Vietnamese citizen living in Vietnam may sponsor their spouse's grandparents and parents, and their own spouse, children and siblings who are foreigners. Business, work and investment visas are sponsored by a company or organisation.
A family visit visa sponsored by a Vietnamese relative is usually marked TT (family member); the TT symbol also qualifies for a temporary residence card later.

Form numbers (NA1, NA2, NA3, NA5, NA6, NA7, NA8, NA16, NA17…) follow Circular No. 70/2026/TT-BCA of the Ministry of Public Security, in force from 1 July 2026. Since that date only the forms issued with this Circular are accepted — download the current form from the official procedure page.

Your relative does not always need you: anyone outside Vietnam can apply for an e-visa on their own for up to 90 days, and some nationalities are visa-exempt. A sponsor is needed for longer family stays, a visa on arrival, or later for an extension or residence card.
The sponsor's responsibilities
Article 45 of the Law makes the sponsor responsible for:
- guiding the foreigner to follow Vietnamese law and to act in line with the purpose of entry;
- working with the accommodation to register the foreigner's temporary residence;
- informing the immigration authority in writing when the foreigner no longer needs sponsorship, and helping ensure they leave Vietnam.
The same sponsor applies for a visa extension or a temporary residence card later. We help sponsors understand the steps and complete the forms; we do not submit files at the Immigration Department and we do not collect government fees.
