How to apply for Vietnam e-visa: step-by-step on the official portal

To apply for a Vietnam e-visa, open evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn, upload a portrait photo and your passport photo page, check the details the system reads from your passport, and complete the form in English. Before you start

  • A biometric passport valid at least 30 days longer than the e-visa you want.
  • A recent portrait photo: 4×6 cm, JPG or JPEG, under 2 MB, facing the camera, no hat, no glasses, formal clothing, white background.
  • A clear image of your passport photo page.
  • Your planned entry date, entry and exit border gates (from the e-visa list) and your first address in Vietnam.
  • A card for the online payment and access to your phone for the OTP code.
  • The time zone used by the portal is UTC+07:00 (Vietnam time).

Step by step on the portal

  1. Upload your photo and passport

Upload the portrait photo and the passport photo page. The system checks both images and reads your passport details. If the passport image is invalid, you cannot submit the application.

  2. Check and complete the form

Review the fields filled in from your passport and correct anything wrong. Complete every field marked with an asterisk (*), plus any optional fields that apply to you. Answer in English, fully and truthfully.

  3. Confirm and enter the verification code

Read the whole application again, then enter the verification code to continue.

  4. Pay the fee

Check the payment details, agree and choose a payment method, enter your card details, accept the terms, and confirm with the OTP. The fee is US$25 for single entry or US$50 for multiple entry, and it is not refunded if the visa is refused.

  5. Save your profile ID

Write down the electronic profile ID shown after payment. You need it, with your date of birth and email, to look up your application.

  6. Look up the result and keep your e-visa

Use the portal's search page to check the result. When the e-visa is granted, keep a copy and show it to the immigration officer when you enter Vietnam.

Filling in the application form: points the portal stresses

  • Full name: write your surname, middle name and given name exactly as in the ICAO (machine-readable) line of your passport, in capital letters.
  • Multiple-choice questions: tick every answer that applies. If you choose “Others”, write the specific information.
  • Trips in the last year: list each trip separately with its own dates, counted from entry to departure.
  • Address in Vietnam: if you will stay in several places, give the first address. After arrival, your accommodation declares your temporary residence each time you move.
  • Past violations: declare previous immigration violations, even old ones. Leaving them out can lead to refusal.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Applying on a look-alike website instead of evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn.
  • A photo with glasses, a hat, a coloured background or a file over 2 MB.
  • A name typed differently from the passport's machine-readable line.
  • Choosing a border gate that is not on the e-visa list.
  • Applying while still in Vietnam — the e-visa is only for people entering the country.

After you apply

The official processing time is no more than 3 working days from receipt of complete information and the fee (Ministry of Public Security Public Service Portal). Before you fly, complete the pre-arrival declaration recommended by the Immigration Department. When you arrive, show the e-visa and check the stay stamp in your passport before leaving the counter. The rules on validity, fees and border gates are on our Vietnam e-visa page.

If you would rather have someone check your form before you pay, we can help you fill it in. You still submit and pay on the official portal yourself, and the decision is made by the Immigration Department.
