Vietnam visa checker by nationality: visa-free or e-visa?

Choose your nationality, passport, purpose and length of stay. The checker applies Vietnam's official visa exemption lists and tells you whether you can enter visa-free or need an e-visa. It runs in your browser and does not send your answers anywhere.

Quick answer

Citizens of 24 countries can stay in Vietnam visa-free for 45 days (12 of them for tourism only), and 15 more get 14 to 90 days under bilateral agreements. Anyone may visit Phu Quoc island visa-free for 30 days. Everyone else, or anyone staying longer, needs a visa — usually an e-visa of up to 90 days from the official portal.

If the result is an e-visa

Vietnam issues e-visas to citizens of all countries and territories, valid for up to 90 days. You apply yourself on evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn and pay the fee there: US$25 for single entry or US$50 for multiple entry. We do not collect this fee.

Step-by-step help: how to apply for a Vietnam e-visa.

What the checker does not cover

  • Diplomatic and official passports — each agreement has its own rules.
  • Visa exemption cards under Decree 221/2025/ND-CP for special categories such as invited experts and investors.
  • Cases where entry may be refused under the Immigration Law, or an earlier overstay.
  • Transit without entering Vietnam.

Frequently asked questions

Does the visa checker store or send my answers?
No. It runs in your browser. Your nationality and travel plans are not saved or sent to us.
Where do the country lists come from?
From the visa exemption list published by Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Government Resolutions 44/NQ-CP and 229/NQ-CP, checked on the date shown in the result.
My country is not in the list. What should I do?
Choose "Another country or territory". The checker will point you to the e-visa and the Ministry's full list so you can confirm.
Can I stay visa-free and then extend?
Extensions go through a sponsoring organisation or person in Vietnam and are decided by the immigration authority. If you may stay longer, apply for an e-visa from the start.
