No-frills airline
Thai AirAsia will begin a direct service between Bangkok
and Hanoi October 17, and passengers can start booking
next week, Tuoi Tre newspaper said.
The
starting
fare
for a one-way ticket is
just 1,449 baht
plus taxes (equivalent to VND570,000
or $36). This compares to
13,785 and 17,480 baht
charged
respectively
by
Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines.
The
budget carrier would use 148-seat
Boeing
737-300s on
the sector,
the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration
said.
A
Thai AirAsia representative said the
airline
hoped
to achieve
80% occupancy and
had also applied to fly on the
Bangkok–Ho
Chi Minh City
sector.
Thai
AirAsia,
a joint venture between Malaysia’s AirAsia and Thailand’s
Shin Corp,
is the second budget airline to fly
to Vietnam, after Singapore’s Tiger Airways.
