Work begins on cable car system in Vietnam

A major tourism company based in the beach city of Nha Trang broke ground Friday for the construction of the longest cable car system in central Vietnam, reported Thanh Nien.

The Hon Tre Service and Tourism Ltd will invest around US $6.6 million to build the Vinpearl cable car system linking Nha Trang on the mainland with Hon Ngoc Viet resort on Tre Island, a distance of 3,310 metres.

The system, to be set up by French group Poma, is expected to be operational next October.

With 47 cars, each of which can seat eight people, the system will be able to transport 1,000 to 1,500 people an hour, traversing the distance in nine minutes and 20 seconds.

The nine posts on land and sea supporting the cable will be modelled after the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. They will be lit up with laser lamps after sunset.

Hon Tre will also spend nearly US $56.6 million on building a seafood restaurant, 5-star resort Vinpearl II, golf course, villa complex, and an eco-tourism area on the island. Nhandan.com
